Snopow M5 is one of their new product that comes with a rugged casing, 4.5-inch display, 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, 2.0MP front camera + 8.0MP back camera and meets the IP68 specification. In addition, it has features like GPS, OTG, NFC and Walkie Talkie. All make it become a nice rugged smartphone in the market. This post is a hand-on review of this handset.
What’s in the box
The Snopow M5 reviewed here is the yellow edition. It comes in a yellow carton box. The outdoor activity sketch and text on the box indicate that it’s a tri-proof smartphone for outdoor use. Inside the box, you can find the phone and some accessories. M5 is oriented to users with specific needs. Design & Display
The first impression of the Snopow M5 is its rugged tri-proof casing with many screws. The body is made of polycarbonate. The main color is black but with some yellow edge designs for Yellow edition. The Snopow M5 comes with a 4.5-inch 16: 9 capacitive screen with resolution of 960 x 540 (qHD) and 244.77 ppi. The display is also highly resistant to impacts or contact with the water.
On the upper left corner of the front panel, there is the front camera. While on the opposite side, the proximity sensor is located there. On the lower edge of the screen, there respectively are menu, start, back, and search tactile access buttons. As for the back side, the main camera is located in the upper middle zone. Below it, there is the flash. In the upper right corner of the back panel, there is a hold with cover where is designed for inserting the antenna. The control and functional buttons as well as the ports are located on the the left and right edges of the phone. Ports are covered with a rubber cover to protect the dust and water. It also features the one-touch SOS system.
Hardware & Software
The Snopow M5 comes with a 4-core 64-bit Media Tek MT6735 processor and a Mali-T720 MP2 GPU Likewise, along with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM. It can also be expandable up to 32GB through the use of a Micro SD card. This is enough to make us a few videos and photos without collapsing the storage space. In addition, this handset also features two slots for standard SIM card.
As for software part, the Snopow M5 is running on Android 5.1 LoliPop. Actually it features a modified version UI. Thus it works perfectly and adapts to the different functions of the phone, although it is not the most current Android version.
As mentioned in the beginning, the Snopow M5 includes an 13MP main camera with a LED Flash which offers a very good image quality. Moreover, it also has features like Autofocus, continuous shooting, exposure compensation, face detection, and so on. For selfie, the M5 is equipped with a 2 MP front camera that is very basic but can meet for some demands.
As battery life is a very important feature of a smartphone, the Snopow M5 is powered by a 3300mAh lithium polymer battery that can support to use for a day. If you think that 3300mAh is still not enough to meet your demand, Snopow offers an upgrade model called Snopow M5P which is almost the same as M5 but with a more massive battery of 4700mAh capacity.
